About the Film

Between the Mountain and the Sky tells the extraordinary true story of Maggie Doyne, who at just 18 years old traveled to Nepal after high school—and ended up building a children’s home, a school, and a women’s center.

Filmed over two decades, the documentary captures Maggie’s 20-year journey of service, love, and resilience. It chronicles the triumphs and struggles of a young woman who turned a single trip abroad into a life devoted to creating family and community for 50 children in Nepal. Through heartbreak, perseverance, and moments of deep hope, the film shows how one person’s compassion can transform lives.

Why This Film at the Forum?

The Ethical Leadership Forum exists to elevate real models of ethical leadership—whether nonprofit founders, grassroots organizers, high-level leaders, or high school students exploring leadership through our field studies. This film is no exception.

Maggie Doyne’s story embodies the very heart of what the Forum is about: moral courage, compassion, and the ability to turn vision into action. By screening Between the Mountain and the Sky, we invite participants to see leadership in its most human form—not just as ideas, but as lived choices that ripple outward to change communities.

Just like our keynote speakers, workshops, and student presentations, this screening is designed to inspire action and reflection. It asks us to consider:

  • What does it mean to lead ethically?

  • How can small steps become movements of transformation?

Join Us!
